PAC-MAN Lite for iPad aims to recapture the pill-munching fun of the classic arcade game.
The object of PAC-MAN Lite is, of course, to gobble up all of the pink pills without getting eaten by the ghosts. If you eat a flashing pill then the ghosts turn blue for a few seconds, meaning you can run into them to send them back to their home in the center of the maze.
There are three different ways you can control PAC-MAN Lite for iPad. You can choose to move PAC-MAN by swiping the screen, by using the on-screen joystick, or by tilting the phone. Swiping is probably the most comfortable of the three but it would’ve been nice to have the option of placing the PAC-MAN Lite joystick wherever you like. It feels a bit awkward stuck out there on the left of the screen and right-handed users might prefer to switch sides, or at least put it in the middle.
Unfortunately, the controls in PAC-MAN Lite are somewhat temperamental, and we often found that they seized up for no reason, which gets very annoying and makes it difficult to complete the measly one level that's included in this version.
PAC-MAN Lite for iPad looks and plays almost exactly the same as it did in the arcades 30 years ago. This isn't that surprising given that this version is published by Namco, who came up with the original PAC-MAN.
Namco needs to sort out the controls in this Lite version in order to make it enjoyable. These glitches don't seem to affect the full, paid version of PAC-MAN for iPad, though.
